The Flying Cats

The Max Marinaio's Flying Cats are a Rockabilly-Blues Trio: vocals, guitar, drums and double bass with an incredible vintage sound and a repertoire of originals.

We've been around since 2005 playing at the Bolognini Theater in Pistoia Tuscany, when we got into the final of the Pistoia Blues Festival the most important blues Festival of Italy receiving a memorable standing ovation. We have played in pubs and made square events for many years.
We have been probably the first Rockabilly band in the world with a female drummer and we have never played more than a 33% of Rockabilly standards, 66% being originals written by me.
So we have never been a Rockabilly band... just like any other! We stood out proudly like the best of the best but always showing modesty and sobriety on stage.

THE SONGS, THE SOUND, THE STYLE
We deliver a classic and still unique sound blend made up with brushes, double bass and semiacoustic guitar with some insights in blues music.
In fact I have never felt the need to consider blues as a totally separated thing from Rock'n'roll. Chuck Berry didn't think like that, nor I.
Our sound is refined like the first rockabilly acts of Gene Vincent or Bill Haley's Comets, bands that did have a style... without lacking energy.
We have a positive attitude: most of the time at our concerts people dance non-stop and our music is absolutely suitable for all ages.
The lyrics are clean and family-friendly, smart and not bigoted.. We have a purely Rockabilly mentality, but with a repertoire updated to our times.
All the songs were written by Max, among the early best: Let's Rock, All The Pretty Girls, You Know I Love You, I Wanna Hear You, Look Look Look, But Only With You.

RECEPTION
According to reviews, The Flying Cats are one of the best Rockabilly bands from Italy or the very best, capable to renew this music style with new original songs which will be remembered for years to come. Our songs have been broadcasted outside Italy by Radio Sensations (France) in their Rockabilly dedicated broadcasting named "Memphis Tennessee". We have received congratulations and invitation to play in Long Beach (CA) at the Ink'N'Iron Festival.
One day I received a nice mail from Liam Grundy and Levi Dexter has always been nice too. Listeners who love rockabilly know who these people are... these kind of things, make you feel part of something... it is cool when people like them recognize you.

In my mind, initially it had to be only a band for just working and playing around, a sort of a go-back to the music that made me happy when I was a little child and pushed me toward playing the guitar.  Also some kind of a cure for the soul.
I already had good songs I had written through the years and I used them. they became our trademark. Like "Let's rock", "All the pretty girls", "But only with you", "You know I love you", "Flying Cat"...  but after a long while, this project captured me more and more and from 2009 through all the 2011, I began to write new rockabilly songs  for the band. These songs have never been published and I am managing things in order to publish them in the future so stay tuned!

A SPECIAL MAX MARINAIO'S MAXIM FOR YOU:
Those who think that rockabilly is a music for ignoramuses are the real ignoramuses. Rockabilly is the music loved by those who have understood things about life that others have not yet understood.

ROCKABILLY AS A TIMELESS MUSIC
Rockabilly is a very special musical language that fits my personality, it is direct and ironical as I really am in real life (who knows me could tell you about that) iIt permits me to say many things in a way which is the most natural for me. It is like Zen philosophy. Those who can't appreciate this music are somewhat sick of intellectualism. Life ain't simple so keep your language and your lifestyle simpler. What do you have to loose? Or to say it with a great writer:

"Only great minds can afford a simple style"
Stendhal

WHERE TO LISTEN TO THE MUSIC
Being a live driven band, producing and publishing had never been important to us... we just made 2 EP on CD in 2009/2010 and I never got them online.
Anyway some of our recordings will be available soon on Album on Bandcamp for all the Rockabilly fans, worldwide!
You can also listen to some free stuff in the below websites (if the link does not open click with the right button and choose "open link in a new tab/window")
I  would like to play in some Rockabilly Festival in UK because we never played there. So if you live there and can arrange something, let me know.
